A panel of medical experts help us develop the standards a product must meet to be Certified. Companies can submit their products to be independently lab-tested to confirm if the products meet all of the AAFA adopted standards. - The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) has a panel of experts who developed the asthma guidelines<\/a>. AAFA serves as a coordinating committee member on the NAEPP to advocate for better care guidelines.<\/li>\n
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)<\/a> has many asthma activities and resources. Funding received from the EPA helped AAFA develop pediatric asthma programs.<\/li>\n
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has a panel of experts who developed the food allergy guidelines<\/a>. AAFA works with the food allergy research team of NIAID to improve diverse enrollment in food allergy research.<\/li>\n

We have a better understanding of the causes of asthma and allergic diseases, but we can\u2019t prevent or cure them.<\/p>\n
A study by the National Institutes of Health (formerly Institute of Medicine) called Crossing the Quality Chasm<\/em><\/a> (2001)\u00a0 stated, \u201cThe U.S. health care delivery system does not provide consistent, high-quality medical care to all people.\u201d<\/p>\nAnd while health care reforms (notably the Affordable Care Act) improved our health care system since that report, there are still major gaps to be addressed.<\/p>\n
AAFA works with researchers to find better treatments, prevention, and even cures. AAFA’s patient-centered research focuses on the lived experiences of people with asthma and food allergies. This allows us to understand what challenges people living with face. Also, we can learn how, and how well, those difficulties are being solved while we continue our research.<\/p>\n
