global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><em>Trend toward $35 monthly cost cap for inhalers a big win for millions of people with asthma<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Washington, DC, March 20, 2024 \u2013 The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) welcomes an <a href=\"https:\/\/linkprotect.cudasvc.com\/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fus.gsk.com%2fen-us%2fmedia%2fpress-releases%2fgsk-announces-cap-of-35-per-month-on-us-patient-out-of-pocket-costs-for-its-entire-portfolio-of-asthma-and-copd-inhalers%2f&amp;c=E,1,-oZ2Yav7LTxE4wXHjAJm0-zsSDdn0K_DPCAdW6P-3m8HMJ5Km40ikgiK2mCxlDyoI1_lbCVIwAGHHB73sKnJwIKwzCY0hfMPYjOyVRrEr6XWWx_anfI,&amp;typo=1\">announcement<\/a> from drug manufacturer GSK that the company will cap out-of-pocket costs for its asthma inhalers at $35 a month for eligible patients in the United States. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>GSK is the third major inhaler manufacturer to announce a $35 a month cap for asthma inhalers within the past two weeks. AstraZeneca made a similar announcement earlier this week, following Boehringer Ingelheim\u2019s announcement \u00a0earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cost of asthma inhalers is going down,\u201d said AAFA president and CEO Kenneth Mendez. \u201cToday\u2019s announcement from GSK continues a promising trend of drug companies taking steps to make asthma medicines affordable and accessible. On behalf of the 27 million people in the United States with asthma, we welcome this trend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While encouraged by the news of manufacturers lowering costs for asthma medicines, AAFA continues to call on all stakeholders in the drug pricing ecosystem to take action. The U.S. health care system is complex, and often leaves patients with few affordable options for treating asthma.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrug manufacturers, pharmacy benefit managers, insurers, employers, and the government operate in <a href=\"https:\/\/community.aafa.org\/blog\/drug-pricing-impact-asthma\">a perverse system that drives prices higher<\/a>,\u201d said Mendez.
