At your appointment, your doctor ask you about your symptoms and personal and medical history. This tells the doctor that they should look for signs of asthma. If they think you might have asthma based on the information you give them, they will do a physical exam.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3297 size-medium alignright\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/asthma-physical-exam-300x200.png\" alt=\"Physcial exam to help diagnose asthma\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>During a physical exam for asthma or allergies, your doctor will look at your ears, nose, throat, eyes, skin, chest and lungs. They may:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Listen to your lungs for wheezing or whistling that could mean inflammation<\/li>\n<li>Look in your nose and throat for swelling and drainage that could be caused by allergies<\/li>\n<li>Check your skin for signs of <a title=\"Eczema\" href=\"\/allergies\/allergy-symptoms\/skin-allergies\/eczema\/\" rel=\"noopener\">atopic dermatitis, also called eczema<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Take an X-ray of your lungs and sinuses<\/li>\n<li>Perform tests to rule out other conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your doctor finds signs of asthma, they will discuss with you about options for lung tests.
